Studies Calculate Cancer Risk From CT Scan Radiation
Two new studies published in the Archives of Internal Medicine calculated the exact risk of developing cancer after exposure to radiation during Computed Tomography (CT). In one study, Rebecca Smith-Bindman, MD and her colleagues conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study to determine the radiation dose from 11 most common types of diagnostic CT scans. It included 1119 consecutive adult patients at 4 San Francisco Bay Area institutions in California between January 1 and May 30, 2008.
